Rain doesn't usually close the trail and we only know Barfield is closed if they tell us. If the gate isn't open, try calling the Park Office at 615-890-5333 to verify if the trail is supposed to be closed. On weekends, visit or call the Wilderness Station at 615-217-3017.
Daylight use only; Park closes 1/2 hour before dark.

Overnight rain has created muddy and slick trail conditions. Riding the trail in its current condition will not only be very dangerous, but will also damage the trail. It’s important to remember that things do not dry out very well this time of year. Please be patient as we monitor the trail conditions. We hope to have the trails open again if possible this year, but a lot of that will depend on weather. Rain and freeze thaw cycles this time of year create a lot of uncertainty about when trails will be open. Again we ask for your patience in that regard.
